Contone — former municipality in Ticino, Switzerland

Geography and landscape

Contone lay on the low‑lying Magadino plain, a corridor between lakeshore terraces and the rising Prealps. The surrounding landscape combined cultivated fields, small woodlots and riparian zones. Its position linked lakeside communities with the larger towns in the Locarno area and provided easy access to transit routes along the lake.

History and development

The village developed historically from an agricultural base, with local farms, orchards and small artisan trades. Merger into Gambarogno
