Clayton County, Georgia

Clayton County is a county in the U.S. state of Georgia, immediately south of Atlanta. Its seat is Jonesboro. The county is part of the Atlanta metro area with notable history, transportation links and institutions.

Clayton County lies in the north-central portion of the U.S. state of Georgia, forming part of the greater Atlanta metropolitan area. History

Created in the mid-19th century and named for jurist and congressman Augustin S. Clayton, the county has historical sites tied to the Civil War era. The county seat, Jonesboro, was the scene of the Battle of Jonesborough in 1864 during the Atlanta Campaign.
