Playing career and teams

Style, strengths and legacy

Doleman was widely regarded as one of the premier pass rushers of his era. He combined a quick first step off the line with strong hands and an ability to bend around offensive tackles, traits that made him effective in both obvious passing downs and in more multi-purpose defensive schemes. Beyond statistics, his influence is measured by the frequency with which opposing offenses had to game-plan specifically to contain him. Teammates and opponents often praised his work ethic and preparation.

Across his career Doleman received numerous honors. He was selected to multiple Pro Bowls and earned First-team All-Pro distinctions during peak seasons.
