Bunny Carr

Bernard "Bunny" Carr (1927–2018) was an Irish television presenter and communications pioneer who hosted popular RTÉ programmes and founded Carr Communications, a leading Irish PR and media-training firm.

Overview

Bernard "Bunny" Carr (31 July 1927 – 19 September 2018) was a prominent Irish television presenter and communications entrepreneur. Born in Dublin, he became a familiar face on national television during the early decades of RTÉ broadcasting and remained influential in Irish public life through his later work in media training and public relations.

Broadcasting career

Carr hosted several well-known RTÉ programmes during his broadcasting career. He presented the quiz show Quicksilver, the youth-oriented programme Teen Talk, and the magazine-style show Going Strong. His on-screen manner was direct and personable, which helped him connect with a wide range of viewers. Through these programmes he became associated with light entertainment and audience engagement at a formative time for Irish television.

Carr Communications and influence

In 1973 Carr founded Carr Communications, a company that offered public relations and communications training. Regarded as one of the first firms in Ireland to specialise in this area, it provided practical coaching in interview technique, presentation skills and media relations. The business model helped introduce formal media-training practices to Irish politicians, business leaders and organisations and contributed to the professionalisation of public communication in Ireland.

Legacy and later life

Carr's dual career in broadcasting and communications left a lasting mark on Irish media and public life. As a presenter he helped shape programme formats and audience expectations in RTÉ's early decades; as a founder of a communications firm he promoted clearer, more strategic public communication in both the public and private sectors. He died of respiratory failure on 19 September 2018 in Dublin at the age of 91.
