Timothy Charles Smith (3 July 1961 – 21 July 2020) was an English singer, multi-instrumentalist, composer, record producer and director best known as the driving force behind the cult band Cardiacs. Born in Carshalton, in Surrey, Smith led a group whose music combined elements of punk energy, progressive composition and theatrical pop, earning an intense and devoted following outside the mainstream.

As principal songwriter and frontman, Smith created songs characterized by abrupt tempo shifts, unusual time signatures, layered melodies and tightly arranged horn and keyboard parts.
