Bronisław Chromy: Polish sculptor, painter and educator

Life and career

Chromy was born in the village of Leńcze near Lanckorona in southern Poland. After training as an artist he established himself in Kraków, where he taught at the Academy of Fine Arts and influenced generations of students. He became a member of the Polish Academy of Learning, reflecting his standing in the national cultural community. Chromy died in Kraków, Poland, on 4 October 2017 at the age of 92.

Teaching and public role

As a professor at one of Poland’s leading art schools, Chromy combined studio practice with teaching. His academic role involved studio supervision, participation in exhibitions and involvement in public commissions.
