Overview
Age of Mythology is a real-time strategy game that combines resource management and base-building with characters and creatures from classical myth. Players develop settlements, advance through technological eras, and call upon gods to unlock unique units and supernatural abilities. The title is a spin-off of the broader Age of Empires family and was developed by Ensemble Studios.

Gameplay follows familiar RTS patterns: gather resources, build an economy, create armies, and defeat opponents. Typical resources include food, wood and gold, plus a special resource called favor that powers divine actions. Players progress through successive Ages to access stronger units and buildings.
Gods, myths and units
At the start of each game a player selects a major god for their civilization; that choice affects available mythological units, technology, and a special god power. In addition to major gods there are minor gods who grant further options as players advance. Myth units—such as cyclopes, sphinxes, and frost giants—play a central tactical role alongside conventional human troops.
Expansions and editions
The game was followed by the expansion Age of Mythology: The Titans, which added a new civilization and the titular Titan units, along with extra campaigns and gameplay features. A later re-release brought the game to modern digital platforms with updated multiplayer and stability improvements.
Modes, campaigns and community
Age of Mythology includes single-player campaigns that mix narrative missions with strategy objectives, as well as skirmish and multiplayer modes. The friendly modding scene and persistent player communities have helped sustain interest for years. For context within the franchise see the Age of Empires series: Age of Empires.
