Pete Domenici was a Republican politician best known for representing New Mexico in the United States Senate from 1973 until 2009. Before his long Senate career he served as Mayor of Albuquerque (1967–1970). Over his 36 years in the Senate he became a central figure in budget debates and energy policy, holding leadership posts and shaping legislation on fiscal matters.
