Nicolae Rainea (19 November 1933 – 1 April 2015) was a Romanian football referee who became one of Europe's best-known match officials in the 1970s and early 1980s. Nicknamed "The Locomotive of the Carpathians" for his energy and endurance on the pitch, Rainea represented Romania at three consecutive FIFA World Cups and was appointed to several high-profile UEFA finals.
