John Michael Beaumont OBE (20 December 1927 – 3 July 2016) served as the 22nd Seigneur of Sark from 1974 until his death. He inherited the title from his grandmother, Sibyl Hathaway, and had trained and worked as a civil engineer before assuming the responsibilities of the seigneurial office.

Role and context
Sark is one of the Channel Islands, a group of islands with a special constitutional relationship to the British Crown. The seigneur historically held a mixture of symbolic, legal and economic privileges on the island: a prominent residence (La Seigneurie), certain customary rights tied to land tenure, and ceremonial duties connected to local government. During Beaumont’s long tenure the island’s way of life and governance attracted attention as one of Europe’s few surviving feudal arrangements.
