Constituent settlements

The parish includes three principal villages and a number of smaller named hamlets. The main settlements are:

• Bledlow
• Bledlow Ridge
• Saunderton

In addition the parish contains a series of hamlets and green settlements, often identified on local maps and in parish literature. These include Crownfield, Forty Green, Holly Green, Pitch Green, Rout's Green, Saunderton Lee and Skittle Green. Many of these places consist of a small cluster of houses, a manor house or farmstead and historically have developed around commons and parish greens.

Landscape and character

Geographically the area has the character of low rolling hills, hedged fields and small woodland blocks typical of the Chiltern fringe. History and name

The parish name uses the Latin conjunction "cum", meaning "with", to show that two formerly separate places — Bledlow and Saunderton — are administered together. Like many Buckinghamshire settlements, the component villages have medieval origins and grew around agriculture, parish churches and local manorial estates. Over time the civil parish became the basic unit of local administration for community affairs and planning.
