William Abb Cannon (August 2, 1937 – May 18, 2018), commonly known as Billy Cannon, was an American football standout best remembered for his college achievements at Louisiana State University and a professional career that spanned the American Football League and the National Football League. He became a household name after winning the 1959 Heisman Trophy and is often cited among the greatest players in LSU history. During his playing days he was noted for his versatility as a running back and for later work as a tight end.
