Early life and background

Olner was born in Atherstone, in Warwickshire, in 1942. Before entering parliamentary politics he made his career in the transport sector and was active in trade union organisation and local labour movement activities. Prior to serving in Parliament, Olner was involved in local government and community leadership, including a period as leader of Nuneaton Borough Council.
