Career and teaching

Herbolsheimer taught on the music faculty at Cornish College in Seattle, mentoring students and collaborating with local ensembles. Alongside teaching he maintained an active schedule as a performer and composer, with organizations such as the National Endowment for the Arts and Chamber Music America presenting or commissioning performances of his work. His dual role as educator and practitioner helped shape the musical community in Seattle and the region.

Over the course of his career Herbolsheimer wrote more than 500 works spanning a variety of forms. He composed for:
