Belpberg — former municipality and hill region in the canton of Bern

Geography and landscape

The Belpberg consists of a wooded and agricultural ridge south of the city of Bern. Its elevation gives residents and visitors broad views across the Swiss Plateau and toward the Bernese Alps. Land use is primarily mixed: small farms, pasture, patches of forest and scattered hamlets characterize the slopes and the plateau. The former municipal entity of Belpberg was formally merged on 1 January 2012 into the municipality of Belp, a decision typical of Swiss municipal consolidations intended to streamline local services and governance.
