Geography and landscape

On 1 January 2014 the former municipalities of Tscheppach, Brügglen, Aetingen, Aetigkofen, Bibern, Gossliwil, Hessigkofen, Mühledorf, Küttigkofen and Kyburg-Buchegg merged to form Buchegg. Such consolidations are common in Switzerland where small local authorities combine resources for planning, schooling and infrastructure.

Following the merger, municipal administration, technical services and school organisation were transferred to the central authorities of Buchegg.
