Overview

Bauma is a municipality in the district of Pfäffikon in the canton of Zürich, in northeastern Switzerland. Located in the Töss Valley, Bauma is a German-speaking community made up of a central village and several smaller settlements, surrounded by mixed farmland, forest and upland terrain.

History

The area has a history stretching back to the medieval period, with settlement and agriculture shaping local development for centuries. In the modern era Bauma evolved with small-scale industry and services while retaining rural characteristics. On 1 January 2015 the former municipality of Sternenberg was merged into Bauma, enlarging its territory and population.
