Collections and exhibits

History and development

Founded in the late 1800s, the zoo developed from acclimatisation and scientific interests of the era into a modern conservation organisation. Adelaide Zoo participates in captive-breeding programs, habitat protection initiatives and community education. Giant pandas and international collaboration

In 2009 the zoo began hosting giant pandas on loan from China as part of a diplomatic and conservation partnership.
