Geography and environment

The district occupies fertile alluvial plains shaped by the rivers of the region and an extensive canal irrigation network. Soils and climate are suited to intensive agriculture: hot summers and cool winters with a monsoon season provide the moisture for summer crops. Small patches of scrub and riverine vegetation occur along canals and drains.
