Mayfair

This article describes the London borough; for other meanings, see Mayfair (disambiguation).

The borough of Mayfair ( Audio-Datei / Hörbeispiellisten? /i) is part of the London Borough of City of Westminster in the centre of the city and is in close proximity to all the attractions of London's West End. Mayfair is bounded by the Soho district to the east, St James's to the south, Hyde Park to the west and Oxford Street or the Marylebone district to the north. It is one of the most expensive boroughs in London and the world.

Much of the neighborhood has been owned by the Grosvenor family for more than 300 years, who leased their properties there at a premium through the British leasehold system. The Grosvenors are still considered one of the richest families in England, and several streets and squares in Mayfair are named after them.

Mayfair is home to corporate headquarters, embassies, high-end residential property and luxury hotels along Piccadilly and Park Lane, as well as the famous Bond Street and New Bond Street shopping areas, where you can find the shops of some of the world's most famous fashion designers. Savile Row is home to some of the most famous and best bespoke tailors in the world. Another place of interest is the Shepherd Market.

In addition, Mayfair is considered one of the most attractive residential areas of London due to its upscale architecture and proximity to the city center, accordingly, property prices often amount to several million pounds. Apartments with a view of Hyde Park are particularly sought after. Thus, almost exclusively prominent or particularly wealthy people live in Mayfair. A large part of the property belongs to the Crown Estate.
