Antônio Agostinho Marochi (28 August 1925 – 28 January 2018) was a Brazilian Roman Catholic prelate who served the Church for more than half a century. Born in the city of Londrina, he was ordained to the priesthood in 1953 and later held leadership roles as auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Londrina and as bishop of the Diocese of Presidente Prudente.

Early life and ordination

Marochi was born in 1925 in the state of Paraná. After pursuing theological formation and seminary training customary for Catholic clergy, he received priestly ordination in 1953. His early priesthood coincided with a period of postwar expansion in the Brazilian Church, when parishes and social ministries were being strengthened across the country.

Episcopal ministry

In 1973 Marochi was appointed auxiliary bishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Londrina, assisting the archbishop in pastoral governance, sacramental ministry, and diocesan administration. Three years later he became bishop of Presidente Prudente, a post he held from 1976 until 2002. As diocesan bishop he would have had responsibility for clergy appointments, parish oversight, catechesis, and the coordination of charitable and educational initiatives within the diocese.

Context and significance

Marochi's episcopacy spanned decades of significant social and political change in Brazil. Bishops in that era were often involved in responding to pastoral needs, fostering lay formation, and supporting social programs. While specific programs tied to his name are not exhaustively documented here, his long tenure indicates sustained local leadership and a role in shaping the life of the diocese through liturgy, ministry development, and engagement with community concerns.

Later years and death

After stepping down in 2002 he retained the status customary for retired bishops and continued to be recognized as bishop emeritus. He returned to his native city and died in Londrina on 28 January 2018 at age 92, reportedly from respiratory failure (respiratory failure). His life is a record of steady clerical service within the Brazilian Catholic hierarchy and of long-term diocesan leadership in Paraná and Presidente Prudente.
