Overview and background

Born in Brisbane, Mitchell moved to Western Australia at some stage before entering state politics. Elected to the Legislative Assembly in 2008, she succeeded in winning a seat that covers suburban communities in the northern Perth area. During her time in parliament she carried the responsibilities typical of state MPs: representing local interests, scrutinising legislation and participating in parliamentary committees and forums.

Roles and parliamentary activity

Throughout her term, Mitchell served as a Liberal member contributing to debate on state issues. Like many state MPs, her work combined constituency casework with legislative duties. She participated in committee processes and local consultation, and worked on matters brought forward by residents of Kingsley. Her approach reflected the priorities of her party while responding to local concerns about services and infrastructure.

Election history and departure

Mitchell entered parliament at the 2008 state election and remained the member for Kingsley until 2017. She did not return to the Legislative Assembly after that year’s change of representation for the electorate. Her nine years in office covered periods of both government and opposition activity at state level, a time when local and statewide policy debates included health, education and planning for growing suburbs.

Legacy and death

Andrea Mitchell died on 3 April 2020 at the age of 64. She is remembered locally as a public representative who spent much of her professional life serving a suburban electorate and engaging with community issues. Brief biographical summaries note her party affiliation and the dates she served in the Western Australian parliament.
