Final Straw is the third full-length album by the band Snow Patrol, recorded in an alternative rock style. It was first issued in the United Kingdom in 2003 and saw a release in the United States the following year on Polydor Records.

Writing and recording

All of the album's lyrics were written by Gary Lightbody. The musical compositions credited Lightbody alongside fellow band members Nathan Connolly, Mark McClelland and Jonny Quinn. The songs were developed with the band's evolving lineup and studio sessions that aimed for a more polished sound than their earlier releases.

Versions and availability

The record was reissued in the UK in 2004 with two additional tracks included on the package. The version distributed in the U.S. did not include those bonus tracks, so American purchasers generally received the original track sequence without the extras.

Impact

Final Straw marked a turning point for Snow Patrol: it became their first album to attract substantial attention outside their initial fan bases in Northern Ireland and Scotland, helping the group reach a wider audience in Britain and abroad.
