Production and distribution
The film was a co-production between American and Hong Kong interests. International distribution was handled by Warner Bros., while the movie was released in Hong Kong through Golden Harvest. Synopsis
The story follows a skilled martial artist who is recruited to infiltrate a fighting tournament run by a criminal mastermind. Through combat and investigation, he seeks to expose the organizer's illegal activities and uncover personal motives that drive the conflict.

Upon release the film reached a wide audience and is widely credited with helping to bring martial arts cinema into the mainstream outside Asia. It is often cited as Bruce Lee’s most famous screen role. Notably, it was the last film in which Lee starred before his death in 1973.
