Origins and development

The project was started on 24 March 2006 and developed through contributions from native speakers, language enthusiasts and local historians. Growth has been gradual: as of 23 August 2015 the edition contained over 5,748 articles, and the article total changes over time as editors add and refine entries. Like other Wikimedia projects, it uses free licences and an open-editing model that allows community oversight and iterative improvement.
