Doctor Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik is the principal antagonist of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise and an enduring video game villain. Portrayed as a brilliant but megalomaniacal scientist, he seeks control over lands and resources through mechanization and armies of robots. Fans and creators commonly call him both Dr. Eggman and Dr. Robotnik, names used interchangeably in different regions and media.

Appearance and characteristics

Eggman is visually distinctive: portly build, large mustache, round glasses or goggles, and a bright red coat with black-and-yellow accents. His personality combines comic bluster with cold calculation: he is boastful, theatrical, and persistent, yet defined by a high technical aptitude. Unlike many villains, he relies on engineering, robotics and elaborate machines rather than supernatural powers.
