Dennis Edwards (English footballer, 1937–2019)

English inside forward who played in the Football League mainly for Charlton Athletic; also appeared for Portsmouth, Brentford, Aldershot and in non-league football. Capped by England at amateur level.

Dennis Edwards (19 January 1937 – 13 September 2019) was an English professional footballer who played as an inside forward in the post-war Football League. Club career

Edwards made his name in the Football League with several clubs over more than a decade. His most prolonged spell was with Charlton Athletic, where he made more than 170 first-team appearances. He also had League spells at Portsmouth, Brentford and Aldershot, contributing goals and experience as an inside forward.

Non-league football and representative honours

Beyond the Football League Edwards continued to play at a high level in non-league football, turning out as a goalscorer for clubs such as Slough Town and Wycombe Wanderers. Earlier in his career he was selected to represent England at amateur level, a recognition of his ability outside full international ranks and a common pathway for talented players of the era.
