Irrigation enables the production of vegetables, forage and other cash crops, while livestock and dairy activities are significant in the surrounding countryside. Processing plants, agricultural services, transport and wholesale trade are important employers in the municipality.
History and development
The area developed during the 20th century as irrigation projects and roads expanded across the state, turning formerly arid plains into productive farmland and attracting migrants from other regions. Urban growth in the municipal seat followed the consolidation of agriculture and the rise of food processing and distribution networks.
Government and services
The municipal government administers basic services such as water and sewer, public safety, local roads and urban planning.
