Overview
Cecil "Chic" Littlewood (17 November 1930 – 11 January 2015) was a British-born television entertainer and actor who became a familiar presence on New Zealand screens. He worked for decades in television and film, often cast for his warm, characterful screen persona. His career included a long-running soap appearance, guest roles on drama series and small parts in international feature films.
Early life and move to New Zealand
Littlewood was born in London. In 1964 he emigrated to New Zealand, where he established himself in the local entertainment industry. The move marked the start of a career that spanned presenting, acting and frequent television appearances that made him widely recognised by New Zealand audiences.
Television and acting career
On screen, Littlewood enjoyed a mix of regular and guest work. He is best known for his portrayal of Laurie Brasch, a regular character on the popular New Zealand soap opera Shortland Street, a role he played from 1993 to 1996. He also took occasional roles in other domestic dramas such as Mercy Peak, contributing memorable supporting turns rather than leading parts.
Film appearances and later roles
In addition to television, Littlewood appeared in international films. In 2007 he played Isaac Bulosan in the horror film 30 Days of Night. He also had a small on-screen role as a security guard in the high-profile remake of King Kong, directed by Peter Jackson, credited in some sources as part of the New Zealand-based cast for that production. These film appearances brought his work to wider, international audiences.
