Burt County is one of the administrative counties in the U.S. state of Nebraska. It lies in the eastern portion of the state and is largely rural in character.

History

The county was created in 1854 and takes its name from Francis Burt, an early territorial official. Its boundaries and local government developed during the mid-19th century as settlement in the region increased.

Population and administration

According to the 2010 census, Burt County had 6,858 residents. The county’s administrative center is the county seat, the city of Tekamah, where county government offices are located.
