History

The settlement now known as Buenos Aires was established by Europeans in 1551. Historical records attribute its foundation to the explorers Vasco de Guzmán and Alonso de Fuenmayor, who founded the town during the Spanish colonial period.

Today the municipality retains its municipal status within Cauca and is recognised for its local administration and community life within the region.
