Rui Costa (full name Rui Manuel César Costa, OIH; born 29 March 1972) is a retired Portuguese footballer widely regarded as one of the finest playmakers of his generation. A left-footed attacking midfielder, he combined technical skill, range of passing and game intelligence to orchestrate attacks at club and international level. He was a leading member of Portugal’s so-called "Golden Generation" and later moved into club administration after retiring from play.

Club career
