John C. Culver: Iowa Democrat, U.S. Representative and Senator
John C. Culver, Iowa Democrat who served in the U.S. House (1965–1975) and Senate (1975–1981), later worked as a lawyer and author; father of governor Chet Culver, died in 2018.
John Chester Culver (August 8, 1932 – December 26, 2018) was an American lawyer, writer, and Democratic politician from Iowa. He served in both chambers of the U.S. Congress during the 1960s and 1970s and remained active in public affairs after leaving elective office.

Culver represented his state in the United States House of Representatives before winning election to the United States Senate. His time in Congress spanned from 1965 until 1981, when he left the Senate following the 1980 election. He was a member of the Democratic Party.

Personal life and death
His son, Chet Culver, later served as Governor of Iowa from 2007 to 2011. John C. Culver died on December 26, 2018, in Washington, D.C. at the age of 86.
