Thomas Vermaelen

Early and club career

Vermaelen developed in youth systems in Belgium and the Netherlands before establishing himself in senior club football at Ajax, where he gained attention for his defensive composure and passing from the back. He then moved to the English Premier League and spent several seasons at Arsenal, being named club captain during his time there. Later he signed for FC Barcelona, adding experience in a possession‑based team and competing at the highest club level in Europe.
