Savo Milošević (born 2 September 1973) is a former Serbian Serbian professional football striker who became one of the best-known players from the Balkans during the 1990s and 2000s. He combined a long club career across several European leagues with many years as a regular international for his country's national team.
Playing career overview
Milošević began his senior career in his homeland before moving to higher-profile leagues in Western Europe. He spent key seasons with top clubs in Serbia, England, Spain and Italy, where he earned a reputation as a reliable centre-forward with good aerial ability, positional sense and an eye for the penalty area. Over more than a decade he was noted for scoring important goals in domestic competitions and continental matches.
Clubs and highlights
- Early development and breakthrough in Serbian club football.
- Moves to clubs in England, Spain and Italy where he played at top-flight level.
- Regular appearances in domestic cup and European competitions.
Rather than focusing on a single defining season, Milošević's career is characterised by steady goal scoring and adaptability across different styles of football. He became one of the better-known Balkan exports of his generation because of his consistency and longevity.
International career
For his national side he was a fixture for a prolonged period, appearing in qualifying campaigns and major tournaments. He represented his country in matches that attracted global attention and contributed goals and experience to successive squads during transitional years for the national team.
Style, later roles and legacy
Milošević was primarily a centre-forward: physical, good in the air and effective inside the box. After retiring as a player he moved into football administration and coaching, taking roles that drew on his playing experience and connection to clubs in his home country. He is often remembered for his leadership on the pitch, his goal-scoring instincts, and for helping to raise the profile of Serbian players abroad.
Although celebrated most for his playing days, Milošević's later work in management and club structures continued to influence football in the region, mentoring younger players and contributing to the sport off the field.
