Rosé (born Roseanne Park on 11 February 1997) is a singer-songwriter and performer who records under the mononym Rosé. Born in New Zealand and raised in Australia, she is based in South Korea, where she trained and built her career. Rosé is a member of the internationally successful girl group Blackpink, which has been widely cited as one of the highest-charting female acts in contemporary K-pop. She has also pursued solo work, releasing the single album -R- in 2021 to strong public attention.

Early life and training

Rosé was born to Korean parents and spent her early childhood in Auckland before her family relocated to Melbourne when she was seven. She grew up speaking English and later learned Korean as part of her training. In 2012 she auditioned for and passed an audition with YG Entertainment, becoming a trainee in her mid teens. Her trainee period involved vocal coaching, dance training and language study, preparing her for activities in both a group and solo capacity.

Career with Blackpink

As a member of Blackpink, Rosé has performed on major stages worldwide and contributed lead vocal work to the group’s recordings. Blackpink’s releases and tours helped expand K-pop’s global visibility; the group has appeared on international charts, major award stages and festival lineups, often drawing attention to each member’s individual strengths as well as their collaborative image.

Solo work and notable releases

Rosé made her solo debut in March 2021 with the single album -R-, showcasing a more singer-songwriter orientation alongside her pop work with the group. The solo release included songs that emphasized her vocal tone and personal songwriting sensibility and attracted international chart attention. Solo tracks have been performed in live, acoustic and televised settings, in which she often accompanies herself on guitar.

Artistry and public image

Rosé is frequently noted for a distinctive, slightly breathy vocal timbre, expressive phrasing and an ability to deliver both intimate balladry and dynamic pop lines. She plays guitar onstage at times and is associated with a mix of contemporary pop, soft rock influences and acoustic arrangements. Outside music, she is visible in fashion and commercial projects and has worked with lifestyle and luxury brands as part of her public profile.

Other activities

  • Languages: fluent English and active use of Korean in interviews and performances.
  • Public engagements: televised performances, variety appearances and charity events.
  • Role in group: recognized primarily for her vocal contributions within Blackpink and for her crossover appeal to international audiences.

Rosé’s transnational background—born in New Zealand, raised in Australia and active in South Korea—has helped shape both her public identity and international reach. Her training at YG Entertainment and membership in Blackpink place her within the contemporary global expansion of K-pop, while her solo output demonstrates an interest in personal, instrument-accompanied songwriting as a complement to her group work.
