Early background and party affiliation

Tasoulas is a long-standing member of New Democracy, the principal centre-right party in Greece. His political profile reflects the party’s priorities on economic recovery, institutional reform and European integration. He entered public life through roles at municipal and national level and has been active in parliamentary work for many years.

Political career

Across his career Tasoulas has held a range of offices. He served as Mayor of Kifissia, a municipality in the northern suburbs of Athens, where his responsibilities included municipal services and local development. At national level he has served as Minister of Culture and Sports and as Deputy Minister of National Defence, positions that involved oversight of cultural institutions, sporting policy and aspects of defence administration.

Role as Speaker of the Hellenic Parliament

As Speaker, Tasoulas presides over plenary sessions, enforces parliamentary procedure, organises the legislative agenda and represents the legislature in relations with other state institutions and foreign parliaments. The office requires the holder to manage debate, ensure orderly conduct, supervise voting procedures and balance the rights of majority and minority groups within the chamber. Tasoulas’s combined experience in ministries and local government informs his approach to institutional continuity and procedural discipline.

Legislative work and public profile

Throughout his time in public office Tasoulas has participated in legislative initiatives, committee work and public debates on cultural policy, defence matters and local administration. Speakers with ministerial backgrounds often emphasise administrative efficiency, respect for parliamentary rules and the protection of minority rights during debates; Tasoulas has been associated with these themes in public appearances and official duties.
