Jerrold Lewis Nadler (born June 13, 1947) is an American politician who has served in the U.S. House of Representatives since 1992. He is a member of the Democratic Party and, following congressional redistricting, has represented New York's 10th congressional district since 2013 as the U.S. Representative for that district.

Congressional service

Nadler was first elected to the House in 1992 and has been reelected repeatedly. His districts have covered parts of Manhattan and, at times, Brooklyn, reflecting changes from redistricting over the years. As a senior Democrat, he has held leadership and committee posts during his time in Congress.

Committee leadership

  • He served as Chair of the House Judiciary Committee from 2019 until the change in House majority in 2023, a role in which he oversaw hearings and legislation on legal and constitutional issues.
  • Throughout his tenure he has also been active on other congressional panels and in caucuses that align with his policy interests.

Political stance and reputation

Observers and political publications have described Nadler as positioned on the liberal end of the House Democratic caucus. For example, the National Journal at one time listed him among the most liberal members of the House.
