Karl Fredrik "Freddie" Ljungberg (born 16 April 1977) is a Swedish former professional footballer and coach. Widely remembered for his time at Arsenal, he became one of the Premier League's best-known wide players in the late 1990s and 2000s. He combined speed, direct attacking play and an eye for goal, often arriving late in the penalty area to score decisive strikes.
Playing career
Ljungberg began his senior career in Sweden before moving to England, where he spent the peak years of his club career. His most prominent spell was at Arsenal, where he became a regular starter and an influential team member. He also had shorter spells with other clubs towards the end of his playing days.

- Arsenal (England) — established as a first-team regular and a fan favourite

Style of play
Known for explosive pace and intelligent movement, Ljungberg was adept at making late runs into the box, creating scoring opportunities by timing his arrivals behind defenders. He could play on either flank, deliver crosses, shoot from distance and press opponents energetically. His partnership with leading forwards at Arsenal, particularly in support of the main striker, was an important element of his effectiveness.
Achievements
- Member of title-winning Arsenal sides, including the unbeaten 2003–04 season.
- Winner of domestic cup competitions and recipient of individual recognition during his time in England.
International career
Ljungberg was a regular member of the Sweden national team for many years and represented his country at major international competitions. He contributed goals and experience to the national setup and captained Sweden on occasions.
Coaching and later roles
After retiring as a player, Ljungberg moved into coaching and occasional media work. He returned to Arsenal in a coaching capacity, working with youth and first-team players and serving on the senior coaching staff. He also took temporary charge of the first team in an interim capacity. Beyond coaching, he has been involved in ambassadorial activities and remains associated with the era of Arsenal football he helped define.
Legacy
