Overview

Euzebiusz Smolarek (born 9 January 1981; birth record) is a Polish professional footballer often referred to by the nickname "Ebi." He is the son of Włodzimierz Smolarek, a well-known former Poland international. Over his career Smolarek combined pace and directness on the wing with a forward's eye for goal, and he has represented the Poland national team at major tournaments.

Club career

Smolarek came through youth systems in Poland and the Netherlands and made his name in Dutch football. He spent a significant part of his early professional career at Feyenoord, where he developed under coach Bert van Marwijk. When van Marwijk took a new post in Germany, Smolarek later joined Borussia Dortmund, a move that brought him greater exposure in the Bundesliga.

Following his time in Germany, Smolarek played for several clubs across Europe, including returns to the Dutch leagues and a spell at ADO Den Haag. His club career is characterised by mobility between leagues and by roles both as a winger providing service and as a supporting striker finishing chances.

International career

Smolarek was a regular selection for Poland through the 2000s and featured in high-profile competitions. He contributed to Poland's campaigns at the 2006 FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro 2008, appearing as an attacking option who could stretch defenses with speed. His international experience made him one of the better-known Polish forwards of his generation.

Style of play and legacy

Known for quick acceleration, direct dribbling and a willingness to take on defenders, Smolarek was effective both on the flank and in central attacking positions. Coaches valued his work rate and ability to press opponents. While not always prolific, he offered tactical flexibility and experience at club and international levels.
