Early career and WWE

Hankinson began wrestling on independent cards before signing with a major promotion where he introduced the Festus character: a distinctive gimmick in which the performer appeared passive until the match bell, then transformed into an aggressive competitor. The Festus persona led to a televised partnership with Jesse and established Hankinson as a recognizable presence on weekly television. He later returned under the Luke Gallows name and was written into faction storylines, most prominently aligning with CM Punk, Serena Deeb and Joey Mercury in the Straight Edge Society, a stable built around a cultlike on‑screen identity.

New Japan, Bullet Club and tag success

Outside of WWE, Hankinson reinvented himself as Doc Gallows and found significant success in tag competition. In New Japan he became a member of the Bullet Club, an internationally visible stable that elevated several performers to global prominence. As Doc Gallows he formed long‑running tag partnerships that led to major tag‑team championship victories in Japan and in other promotions, and he became known for rugged touring work and hard‑hitting tag matches.

Later career and returns

Hankinson’s career has included multiple returns to larger promotions and collaborations with noted tag partners. He and longtime allies have worked in a variety of settings—television, pay‑per‑view and international tours—often portraying a blend of brute force and teamwork. His experience across North American and Japanese promotions has made him a familiar figure to fans of both markets.

Style, persona and legacy

Gallows is characterised by a straightforward, power‑oriented in‑ring approach: heavy strikes, slams and team‑based finishing sequences. Across his different ring names he has shown adaptability—shifting from an eerie, delayed‑reaction gimmick to a no‑nonsense enforcer role—while maintaining a consistent reputation as a tag‑team specialist. He is credited with helping popularize faction storytelling and with bringing dependable physicality to tag divisions at the international level.
