History

The area that became Wyckoff was settled in colonial times and reflects the influence of early Dutch settlers; the township's name derives from a Dutch family that established roots in the region. For much of its early history the land was agricultural, with farms and country estates. During the 20th century Wyckoff evolved into a suburban community as regional transportation and postwar development expanded.

Government and public services

Wyckoff is governed at the local level by elected officials; the position of mayor is part of the township's municipal leadership and has been held by Douglas J. Christie. The township provides typical local services such as police and volunteer fire protection, public works, and recreational programming.

Public education is an important local feature, with district schools serving students from elementary through high school. Parks, sports leagues, libraries and seasonal community events form a central part of civic life.
