Womanizer (song)

Womanizer (English for: "womanizer") is a song by American pop singer Britney Spears from her sixth studio album Circus, written and produced by Nikesha Briscoe and Rafael Akinyemi (The Outsyders).

Background

The first single from Circus, Womanizer was released in September 2008. The single reached number 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 - Spears' second number 1 hit after her debut single ... Baby One More Time from 1999. The single was produced and written by the previously unknown producer team The Outsyders. Furthermore, the singer was able to set three records with the song, because with 285,782 download sales of Womanizer, these are the highest sales within the opening week in the Billboard Download Charts since the introduction of the charts in 2003. The record holder until now was Mariah Carey with Touch My Body and 285,544 sales. The 96-place jump further broke the record held by T.I.'s Live Your Life, which made it from No. 80 to No. 1, for the biggest jump to No. 1 in the history of the US Billboard Hot 100. At the same time, Womanizer is the single that has improved the most within the Top 100. The record was previously held by Beyoncé with Shakira, who once moved 91 positions within the Hot 100 with Beautiful Liar.

Music video

The video clip for the single was directed by Joseph Khan, with whom Spears previously collaborated on the videos for Stronger (2000) and Toxic (2004). The video was shot in Los Angeles on September 24 and 25, 2008, in a number of restaurants and clubs. There are some parallels between the new video clip and the two older ones made with Khan. For example, the opening sequence in Womanizer is similar to that of Stronger. Further, a supporting character seen in the copy room scene of the new clip has already taken on a role in Toxic. The video won "Best Pop Video" at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards.
