History
Wavre traces its origins to the medieval County and later Duchy of Brabant. It is best known in modern history for its role during the Napoleonic wars: the Battle of Wavre on 18–19 June 1815 occurred nearby and is often discussed alongside the Battle of Waterloo because of its strategic impact during the same campaign.
