Veracruz — Mexican coastal state on the Gulf of Mexico

Geography and environment

Veracruz features a striking range of landscapes in a relatively compact area: coastal plain and wetlands along the Gulf, tropical lowland forests, and the eastern flank of the Sierra Madre Oriental with higher, cooler terrain. This variation produces high biodiversity and several important river systems that drain to the Gulf.
