Constituent districts and geography

• Sargodha District — the divisional headquarters and an urban-agricultural center.
• Khushab District — contains hilly tracts and the Soon Valley, with more varied terrain.
• Mianwali District — lies toward the west, with semi-arid plains and uplands.
• Bhakkar District — a largely rural district on the western edge of central Punjab, near the Indus floodplain.

The division spans flat irrigated plains, pockets of low hills and riverine areas. Irrigation canals and tube wells support extensive orchards, cereal crops and cotton fields. The Soon Valley and other upland areas add scenic and ecological diversity.

Historically, divisions in Pakistan derive from colonial-era administrative structures. After independence these units continued to be used, though Pakistan's local government reforms have altered their formal role over time: the divisional tier was removed in national reforms around 2000 and later reinstated in the late 2000s as part of renewed provincial administration arrangements.

Economy and society in the Sargodha Division are shaped by agriculture — especially citrus fruit orchards (notably kinnow), wheat and other staples — along with local trade, services and some light industry. Sargodha city is also known for educational institutions and an airbase, which contribute to regional employment and identity.

Culturally the area reflects Punjabi traditions, with linguistic and social variation toward the western districts where Saraiki and other dialects influence speech and customs. Visitor attractions include natural sites such as the Soon Valley and rural landscapes that illustrate Punjab's farming heritage.
