Over a career that spanned more than a decade he became widely recognised in Japan for his consistent scoring in the domestic league and for appearances with the Japan national side. Maeda combined good positional sense with a calm finishing touch and was often deployed as the main striker for his teams.

International play

At international level Maeda was selected for the Japan national team, earning caps and contributing goals during qualifiers and regional competitions.
