Ratatat

Ratatat is an indietronic band from New York. It consists of guitarist Mike Stroud and producer Evan Mast.

History

Mast and Stroud found each other in 2001 and played their first concert under the current band name in September 2003, after they had to drop the original name Cherry for legal reasons. Their first single, Seventeen Years, was initially released in 2003 on the Rex Records label as a 12" record. That same year, Evan Mast and his brother Eric - under the stage names E*vax and E*rocks - formed the Audio Dregs label, which released the single in a second limited edition of 1100 copies in November 2003. The first studio album entitled Ratatat was released in April 2004 on the independent label XL Recordings, from which the single Germany to Germany was released in October 2004. In August 2004 Evan Mast released his first studio album as E*vax. His production skills were also decisive for the second album released under the name Ratatat, the Ratatat Mixtapes, a remix album on which the duo enriched R&B and hip-hop tracks by artists such as Missy Elliott and Kanye West with electronic and guitar sounds.

Ratatat have been touring the US and Europe since 2004, opening for bands such as Franz Ferdinand, Tortoise and Interpol. In May 2013, they entered the Austrian singles charts with Loud Pipes after mobile operator A1 Telekom Austria used the song for a commercial.
