Geography and climate

Guerrero stretches from coastal plains and bays to the Sierra Madre del Sur mountains. Coastal areas have tropical climates with beaches, coastal lagoons and mangroves, while the highlands are more temperate and forested. Biodiversity includes coastal marine life, tropical dry forest and cloud forest at higher elevations. Some beaches are important nesting sites for sea turtles and attract conservation efforts.

The modern name honors Vicente Guerrero, a leading figure in Mexico's independence who later served as president. Traditional culture is expressed in regional cuisine, crafts, music and local festivals; coastal and mountain traditions coexist and influence daily life.
