Fateh Jang Tehsil is an administrative subdivision in the western part of Punjab province, Pakistan, forming one of the tehsils of Attock District. The tehsil takes its name from its principal town, Fateh Jang, which serves as the local administrative centre. The tehsil is organised into 14 Union Councils and combines rural hinterlands with small urban settlements that act as market and service hubs for surrounding villages.

Geography and environment

Located on the Pothohar Plateau, Fateh Jang Tehsil features undulating terrain of low hills and plains. The climate is continental, with hot summers and cool winters; rainfall is seasonal and supports a mix of rainfed and irrigated agriculture. Soils and local water resources determine cropping patterns, and vegetation ranges from cultivated fields near settlements to more sparse flora on higher ground.

Administration and local government

As a tehsil, Fateh Jang is a sub-district level unit responsible for local governance, development planning and municipal services within its jurisdiction. The tehsil administration coordinates with district authorities and the 14 Union Councils to deliver basic services such as road maintenance, sanitation, primary education oversight and rural health facilities.

Union Councils act as the grassroots tier of government: they register births and deaths, support local dispute resolution, and implement small-scale development schemes. The tehsil headquarters in Fateh Jang town houses key offices for revenue, planning and public works.

Economically, the area is primarily agricultural, with small traders, service providers and artisans in the towns. Major crops and livelihoods follow regional patterns: cereal cultivation, horticulture where irrigation permits, livestock rearing and small-scale commerce. Road links and local markets connect farmers to nearby urban centres for supplies and trade.

Socially, the population is a mix of rural and semi-urban communities speaking Punjabi and Urdu, with other regional languages present. Educational and health infrastructure includes primary and secondary schools, madrassas, and basic health units; access to higher education and advanced medical care typically requires travel to larger cities in the district or province.
